Party. Rock. Anthem.

Forget the zombie apocalypse, this is a party apocalypse - which, frankly, seems much more enjoyable.

Glee Seniors to Graduate

Ryan Murphy, creator of the hit show Glee, has revealed that the cast members who play Seniors on the show will indeed graduate next Spring.

This has caused a bit of an outrage because those set to graduate are some of the main characters - Finn, Rachel, Quinn, and Puck.  Personally, I commend Mr. Murphy for having the courage to do something different.

In all reality, just because they graduate doesn't mean these characters won't be popping back into McKinley High (April Rhodes comes back frequently, and she graduated almost a decade before these kids).  Puck isn't the brightest bulb, so who knows if he'll even graduate?  And you know Rachel will be back trying to coach the Glee Club just like her ex-boyfriend.  Finn seems like the kind of dude who will just hang out - become a townie, if you will.  So that leaves Quinn, the only character I believe might actually graduate and move on with her life.

Who knows what the makers of Glee have in store for us during the upcoming Season 3, but I must admit that it's Season 4 that I'm excited about.

5 MORE DAYS!

In honor of the upcoming Season 4 premier of True Blood this Sunday, here's one of my favorite promos that HBO put out this Spring as a teaser.  As an avid reader of the Sookie Stackhouse books that this series is based on, I can promise that this season will be even better than the last.

Let's face it - every single character on this show is just plain sexy and this video only proves it.  I mean, helloooooo Eric and Alcide.

Thankfully there's only a few more days until this #tbwithdrawal is over!

Adele Ordered to Stop Singing

....for a least one month.

Adele has been told by doctors to avoid singing, or even talking, for a least a month.  Her ordered silence is another attempt to help the singer heal her voice after an extreme case of laryngitis.

This comes at just about the worst time, as Adele was forced to cancel the North American tour for her newest album 21, which has been at the top of Billboard charts for months.

As a huge fan, I hope Adele is able to fully recover - and soon.  Here's to hoping she can give up the nasty smoking habit and get the amount of rest that she needs.

Remembering Ryan Dunn

As many people know, Jackass star Ryan Dunn passed away in a horrific car crash yesterday morning.  The 34 year old was one of my favorites on the show, so I decided to pay tribute to him with the video below - which is full of great pictures and clips.

Fellow Jackass star Johnny Knoxville released a statement saying,

"Today I lost my brother Ryan Dunn. My heart goes out to his family and his beloved Angie."

Clearly the Jackass brotherhood will never be the same.  RIP Ryan Dunn.

Can Minnesota be Next?

Pennsylvania has wine vending machines!

All you have to do is swipe your driver's license, blow into a breathalyzer, look into a camera and - BOOM - you're ready to buy some wine.  I want one.

Time-Waster of the Day

Most of us know what it's like to live in an apartment or duplex with annoying neighbors, but this guy really drew the short straw.  Dear Girls Above Me is one annoyed neighbor's documentation of the stupid things that the two girls who moved in above him have to say about life, love, and everything in between.

And the Winner Is...

SOUL DADDY!

On Sunday night, Jamawn Woods was announced the winner of America's Next Great Restaurant.  Soul Daddy was open for business at the Mall of America the next morning and you better believe I was there to check it out.

First of all, since it was the opening day I expected a long line and wait, which couldn't be further from the truth.  Although I didn't get there until 2:30 pm, there was no line and only a few people eating in the restaurant.  After struggling my way through the service line (there were so many things that I wanted to try), I was ready to chow down - and believe me, I was pumped.

To my dismay, the food was nothing special.  I tried the pulled pork sandwich with cheesy grits and black-eyed pea salad and it was good, but nothing spectacular.  I couldn't even finish half of the meal, it was just too much.  My guess is that my expectations were just too high.

I'll be back someday to try something else from the menu, but I sure wish there was some fried chicken.

In a Perfect World..

How It Should Have Ended is a group of animated clips that play out an alternate ending for some of America's favorite movies and TV shows.  So far my favorites have been the ideas for Scream, Lost, and Twilight but they're all pretty hysterical.

Super Fill-Up

I can't even explain this game without sounding like a total nut job.  All I know is I've spent the better half of this evening playing it.  Just give it a try.

Current Jam

Lately, I have been obsessing over a new artist. Her name is Lykke Li and her sound is amazing. She hails from the great land of Sweden and her sound is a mix between pop and electronic with a mix of indie rock. Her newest album, Wounded Rhymes, has been playing on repeat in my itunes for some time now.

Take a listen to one of her songs here...

SOOKIE!!

The ELEVENTH book in the Sookie Stackhouse series is out today!

He's Been Everywhere, Man

This guy's life is totally rad.  He basically goes all over the world and films himself doing some ridiculous dance so his family and friends can keep track of where he is, or has been.  Judging from the videos, he's been just about everywhere and I'm totally jealous.  By visiting Where the Hell is Matt? you can find his videos and journal entries.  This definitely gives me the travel bug!

Current Obsession

I've been listening to The Civil Wars for a while now, but I'm excited that they're finally making their way into the hearts of many more people.  I saw the video for Barton Hollow featured on VH1 today and it made me smile.  This band has band has been heard on Grey's Anatomy and is strongly supported by Taylor Swift.  Check out Barton Hollow below.

And here's another one of my favorites, a cover of The Jackson 5's I Want You Back.

Enjoy, and make sure to give their whole track list a listen here.

Best. Thing. Ever.

I'm notorious for losing my phone.  And by that I mean misplacing, it's hardly ever truly lost.  Today I discovered my savior.  More often than not, I manage to lose my phone when nobody is around to call it for me.  Where's My Cellphone? solved that problem.

Just type in your number, press send, and your phone will be ringing for you to find it immediately.  Awesome.

Osama is Dead.

Everyone knows that Osama Bin Laden is dead.  I understand what a great day this is for the United States but part of me still wishes they would have captured him alive.  This would've offered concrete proof that he's done being the leader of Al Qaeda and prevented the world-wide celebration of someone's death.  The announcement also spurred many random questions for me:

1.  What kind of reaction will the terrorist group have?  If they had killed one of  our leaders and started celebrating in the streets of Pakistan, I know we would've wanted some kind of revenge.

2.  If he was living in such a luxurious mansion, out in the open, why did it  take us 10 years to find him?

3.  I wonder how Obama felt, knowing that Osama was dead for over a week but not being able to tell everyone.

4.  Will there be pictures of his death?  I really don't want to see them, but we all know we need some kind of closure in order to believe all of this.
*and why has his body already been "buried at sea"?

5.  Why do so many people on today's morning talk shows keep slipping up and saying Obama instead of Osama?  "The death of Obama..." doesn't sound very good.

6.  Were the Navy Seals supposed to bring him in alive and one of them just lost it, deciding to shoot him in the head ?  Maybe he was threatening them?  I'd love to hear what happened during the raid.

Congrats are in order to the U.S. military as well as the President for a job well done.  I'm also happy for the closure that the evil guy's death brought for those who lost someone on September 11, 2001.

Now it's time to wait and see what this event means for the future of the United States.  If you missed President Obama's initial announcement and speech, you should check it out here.

More Royal Wedding.

Here's a photo of the royals getting ready for the wedding, and I love it more than any official photo I've seen so far.  Perez Hilton admits that he's not sure if the photo is real, but if it is, it's a gem!

I'm moving to England.

I must admit that was sucked into the Royal Wedding hoopla on Friday morning.  Even though I wasn't quite ready to wake up in the middle of the night to watch, I did TiVo more than 6 hours of coverage.  I love the excitement that surrounded the whole event.  Here are a few of my favorite memories from the day.

Don't Mess With the Originals

Scream 4 was much better than I ever dreamed it could be.  Although it lacked some of the random laughs that were a major part of the first three movies, the storyline was surprisingly interesting.  "The Originals" - Neve Campbell, David Arquette, and Courteney Cox are joined by a star-studded supporting cast including Emma Roberts, Hayden Panettiere, Kristen Bell, Adam Brody, and many more.  If you're a fan of the first three Scream films, this is a must see.

Time-Waster of the Day

Addicting Games really lives up to their name with this one.  Pac-Xon is the ultimate pac-man game that you simply have to play to understand.  If you feel like losing a few hours of you life every day for the next week, you can play it here.

Saving the World - One Shoe at a Time

It's Earth Day today (well, technically yesterday), but I still thought it might be nice to post something pertaining to the occasion.  TOMS Shoes have been my favorites for years now, but there are still tons of people who don't know what this movement is all about.  Basically, when you buy a pair of these (super comfy) shoes, the company donates another pair to a person in need somewhere in the world.

The best part about TOMS is that there's something for everyone.  Whether you're looking for a casual shoe that can be worn at any time, or something more specific, you can find it on their website.   They also offer many opportunities for supporters to get involved in the cause by participating in the yearly "Day Without Shoes" or joining in on a shoe-decorating party on your local college campus.

These shoes are canvas and perfect for the summer months, check out the website and buy a pair.  You won't regret it.

Rebecca Black Must Be Stopped.

If you've been living under a rock and haven't heard Rebecca Black's song, Friday, you can check it out here.  I refuse to even disgrace this blog by embedding the video.

If I hear one more person call her the next Justin Bieber I might pull my hair out.

...and that's all I have to say on this subject.

Current Obsession... the4onthefloor!

My current musical obsession is a Minneapolis based band called the4onthefloor. Their sound is a mix between southern rock and blues, and their leader singer's voice is so rough and unique I find myself going back to their CD all the time.
I like the concept behind the 4 floor drums that they use and their sound is so contagious. Here is a video of one of my favorite songs..

If you like what you hear, check out their website for upcoming shows..

New. Favorite. Show.

ABC's new show Happy Endings reminds me of Friends, only funnier.  The storyline follows a group of 6 friends (3 guys, 3 girls), and every stereotypical person is represented in the process.  That might seem like a bad thing initially, but this show puts it all together perfectly.

The gay guy who's more of a dude than any of his friends, the black man who acts like the whitest chick ever, the overzealous single girl who's blunt to the core, the motherly overachieving woman, and the dysfunctional couple that broke up on their wedding day round out a cast full of one-liners and jokes galore.

Bravo ABC, Happy Endings is the perfect show to follow Modern Family for a fun-filled Wednesday night.

Music Makes the Preview

I've been seeing the same commercial for Reese Witherspoon's new movie Water for Elephants almost every day for the past month.  I must admit that I really have no clue what the movie is about but the Florence and the Machine song that plays throughout the trailer makes me want to see it, like, right now.

Check out the song Cosmic Love (and a sexy Robert Pattison) in the video below.  You can also check out more by the amazing Florence and the Machine here

Kazoo = Win.

I'm not proud of the fact that I enjoy Ke$ha.  Every one of her damn songs gets stuck in my head for days on end.  One of her newest hits, Blow, is no exception.

There is a bright side to being a fan of trashy pop music, though - I stumbled upon this gem of a cover in which a kazoo provides the majority of the background music.  Shed Muzak is a group of Aussies who make some pretty ridiculous re-creations of current pop tunes, and their take on the music is a welcome change from the original tracks.

Make sure to check them out their YouTube page for more covers of everything from Katy Perry to Jennifer Lopez.

New Lady Gaga!

Lady Gaga released a new song today titled Judas.  I can't decide if it's catchy or just plain whiny, but that's what usually happens until one day I catch myself absent-mindedly singing the song.  This one sounds a lot like Madonna - as did Born This Way - but that's not necessarily a bad thing.  I've heard rumors about the music video, and supposedly it's going to be crazy (just like every other one) with tons of religious symbolism.  I'm more excited to see that than I am to listen to this song, but even the video might not help because I can never quite figure out the meaning of any of Lady Gaga's music videos.  I guess we'll just have to wait and see...

If you want to check out Judas, you can download it here.

Rihanna the Collaborator

Rihanna has been all over the place lately.  One appearance that really took me off guard was the Country Music Awards.  She performed "California King Bed" with Sugarland's Jennifer Nettles, and I enjoyed it much more than I would've guessed.  The song is one from Rihanna's most recent album, but I think the duet with Nettles added just the right amount of energy.

Secondly, Rihanna decided to remix her hit S&M with the one and only Britney Spears.  Personally, I liked the original song and video more, but I'm a Britney fan as well so the remix was a fun change.

Gagavision

Lady Gaga put out a new Gagavision video today, and whenever I watch these I can't help but think that she's actually a pretty rad person.  The Gagavision videos give her "Little Monsters" a sneak peak into her everyday life and - even though she's pretty out there when it comes to appearances and performances - she seems to be pretty laid back in the real-life videos (the newest of which, no.42, you can watch below).

Although I can't think of hardly anyone who isn't a fan of Lady Gaga, I must admit that I think she's pretty much a musical genius - from her upbeat tunes to the way she markets herself, she's always got people talking.  According to this fun little website I recently discovered (and think is rather ridiculous) Gagapedia, her new album drops on May 23rd, and I'm excited to check it out.

In the market for some new music?

Whether you're sick of the music in your iTunes library, or you're a new artist trying to get your tunes out into the universe, The Sixty One is for you.  Just create a username and you're on your way to discovering heaps of new music for any taste.

The site allows you to comment, love, and even download the songs right on to your computer.  It's a super fun and easy way to broaden your musical horizons - let's just say it's a musical adventure.

Another Earthquake Hits Japan

Sad news.  Another earthquake has hit Japan, resulting in another tsunami warning in the area.  This quake was only a 7.1 magnitude, meaning it wasn't nearly as bad as the first one, but it's still the last thing that this country needed.

Ever since the initial quake, I've been looking for ways to help out that won't break the bank (since I don't really have one).  It seems that now, even more than before, this country needs all the help it can get.

Here are a few organizations that you can support while staying on a budget:
  • Buy Songs for Japan on iTunes.  The wide array of artists on the album spans from Lady Gaga, to Bob Dylan, to Eminem.  It's only $9.99 and a great group of tracks to add to your library.

  • UNICEF is out to help the children of Japan.  Use this online form to donate to the victims of the earthquake or text JAPAN to 864233 to donate $10.
  • World Vets is an organization with a first responder team that is deployed in Japan.  They are also accepting donations of veterinary supplies and medications at their Fargo, ND headquarters.

More Mumford!

I stated earlier how much I love Mumford & Sons at the moment, so I felt obligated to share this with you all.

Brainz has put together a collection of 10 songs that most people have never heard from Mumford & Sons - unless you've been lucky enough to see them live.  The collection includes songs that weren't released on their album, as well as a few covers.

If you're like me and can't get enough of these guys, you can check out the videos here.  Below is one of my favorites, a cover of Old Crow Medicine Show's "Wagon Wheel".  Enjoy.

Distraction

Looking for something to help you procrastinate on that big work project or college term paper you're in the middle of?  This is it.

Similar to Texts From Last Night,  Dear Blank, Please Blank is hilaious for absolutely no reason at all.

Just see for yourself, soon you'll realize you've lost an hour of your life.

Chirp Chirp

It's always nice to hear that musicians take time out of their busy schedules to help the less fortunate.  The Yellow Bird Project is a bunch of indie rock do-gooders who thought they could use their artistic scribbles to benefit a wide range of charities and organizations.

Bands like Tegan and Sara, The Shins, Bon Iver, Rilo Kiley, and many more have designed t-shirts for purchase through the Yellow Bird Project website.  Each band then chooses a charity to which the proceeds will be donated.

I dig rock music, I also like t-shirts, and I'm totally a fan of charities - so I just bought the shirt designed by Grizzly Bear, which benefits Brighter Planet.  Your turn.  Go now.

HOP

Cute and Funny! Not much of a plot- but was anyone really expecting one? The story is simple with enough adult humor to keep me laughing throughout the movie.  With a stacked cast including people like Russell Brand, James Marsden, Kaley Cuoco, David Hasselhoff, and Chelsea Handler, HOP was definitely entertaining.  The perfect flick for a lazy afternoon.

Torn

Just got done reading the second book in Amanda Hocking's Trylle Trilogy, Torn. The second book of the series has made me consider recommending the series to everyone but I'm not sold yet. The story has really picked up and introduced a few incredibly lovable characters that have really added depth and excitement to the plot. However, there are still major editing errors that really take away from what I think of as "readabililty ". There are still entire explanatory paragraphs that are unnecessary and repetitive but not nearly as much as in the first book of the series, Switched. The main issue is there are a lot of "editing leftovers"- words that have been left out of place or flip-flopped in many sentences.

These books definitely don't read like individual books, the plot and writing style are much more like one long story, so to read one book is to be dedicated to reading all three unless you want to get done with a book and feel like you've left in the middle of a story. I'm on the third book of the series and if it continues getting better at the same rate that Torn got better than Switched I will definitely come back excited with my review.

Give A Little

I don't care what anyone says, the Mmmmbopper inside of me will never die.  Each new album that Hanson puts out gets better and better - as do the videos.  I was lucky enough to check out one of their concerts last summer and I must say - it was a blast.  It poured rain the whole time but the guys just kept jammin' until they were forced off the stage.  In other words, I am not ashamed to admit that I might be slightly obsessed.  At least they lost their Fabio haircuts and finally made it through puberty.

Watch An Entire Mumford & Sons Concert Online!

Mumford & Sons is definitely one of my (and many other people's) favorite bands at the moment.

For those who haven't been lucky enough to see these guys in concert, Baeble Music is offering fans the chance to see an entire Mumford & Sons show online.  Viewers even have the option of looking at the set list and jumping to their favorite songs.

If you've been living under a rock for the last year, and don't know who Mumford & Sons is, there's no question that you need to check this video out.  The London-based band is one of the best live performers I've seen in a long time.  The best part about this band is the passion you can hear in their music - and the banjo.

Now, check the amazing show that was taped at the Music Hall of Williamsburg here.

All Grown Up

I recently challenged myself to read all of the books that I was too cool to read in my high school English classes.  Even though I have basic knowledge of these stories from my Sparks Notes studies, I thought it might be a good idea to struggle my way through some of the old classics -  if for no other reason than to simply say that I did.

The best part - if any other ambitious souls want to attempt this challenge - is that old classic books are easily accessible online at Planet eBook.  For those who own a Nook or Kindle, this site makes things super easy by allowing you to download the books directly to your device.  If you don't own an eReader, the site still allows you to view the page online, or print them out.

So, if you feel like revisiting your high school years, visit Planet eBook and download any classic from Geogre Orwell's 1984 to Emily Brontë's Wuthering Heights.  You'll be glad you did.

The Lincoln Lawyer

I caught the late showing of Lincoln Lawyer last night, so here is my amateur opinion on the movie. In a nutshell: It was good but not great. The strong cast and well-paced plot line made it worth 118 minutes of my time and the movie was perfectly entertaining. But it missed that extra something you need in order for the movie to have been capable of "wow"-ing audiences.

The beginning of the movie introduces potentially lovable characters but never quite expands them enough for the audience to fully connect with them (such as Laurence Mason playing "Earl" the doesn't-ask-questions driver for Matthew McConaughey or Michael Pena as a wrongfully accused client). Also- I love Marisa Tomei as an actress so it's hard for me to come to terms with this but must be said- her character had no point in the movie. Tomei plays McConaughey's ex-wife and beside some witty-banter and the audience knowing that she exists there was really no point in ever flushing out the story line between the two of them.

Bottom line is that the movie was entertaining. It told a good story and held my interest throughout. I give it three out of five stars or thumbs up or popcorns or whatever I should be rating movies by, not fantastic but enjoyable.

How Original

This video speaks for itself.

Innovative Advertising

This might be old news to some people, but I love discovering innovative forms of advertising.  Last year, Amnesty International installed an anti-domestic abuse ad fixture in a Germany bus stop.  The tag line is "It happens when nobody is watching." - and the ad portrays just that.  When the viewer looks directly at the ad it looks like a happy couple, smiling for the camera.  But when they look away, the image changes into the man just about to hit the woman.

Although shocking, it definitely gets the point across.  Powerful.

If Only...

...this had been available when I was still in college.

Chegg is a company that started with the mission to make the college experience easier for students across the United States.  The website initially offered students the option to rent their text books instead of blowing their entire summer savings on their books every semester.  Although not every school is participating in the program yet, the company is expanding quickly and I have no doubt it will become a widely accepted concept at many major universities in the years to come.

Recently the company annouced that their website will be expanding to include more resources that will make the life of a student even easier.  These include a course scheduling program (where students can see if their friends are registering for the same classes), a course ranking program, and 24-hour homework help.

The best part is - every time you rent a book from Chegg, they plant a tree!  Yay earth!

Happy Monday!

Mindless Reads

Summer is (kind of) approaching and I found myself digging around for a good series to be able to throw in my beach bag. I thought I had found my "beginning of summer series" when I found Switched the first book in the Trylle Trilogy by Amanda Hocking. Switched has all the workings to be an escapist's dream in which young, beautiful but misunderstood teen protagonist (Wendy) finds herself in a strange world and much to her astonishment *cue: gasp* finds herself the princess of this world!

Could Switched be a good guilty pleasure/mindless read? Let's consult the checklist:

cheesy love story-check

strange new world-check

rebellious star-check

riches and wonder-check

HOWEVER this story falls short on so many levels. Firstly- Switched is in desperate need of editing! I'm okay with being told how to feel or what to think as I'm reading through a book I purposely picked because I didn't want to think much. That being said; there is a fine line between clarifying how a protagonist feels and making a reader feel like an idiot for constantly reiterating emotions and circumstances that most everyone should have caught on to pages (if not chapters) ago. The book became much more enjoyable when I began skipping entire paragraphs as soon as the main character started self-analyzing.

Aside from the constant reiteration and unnecessary self-reflection the story never really peaks to anything. The climatic scene has elements of excitement and hysteria, yet all I feel is bored. The reader is left wanting that intangible "something more".

Perhaps it is because I haven't satiated my desire for that "something more" that I can't stop reading these books! My mind keeps wondering what might happen next to Wendy and where the story will lead us (although so far it hasn't brought us anywhere interesting). I suppose the only thing left to do is keep reading- on to book two of the trilogy Torn and my full report soon.

The Challenge

A new movement that has recently stormed the country is the Six Items or Less experiment.

The basic idea is that each person who commits to the challenge attempts to pick only six items or less to wear for an entire month.

Before you start to think this idea is too crazy, there are exceptions to the rule.  Things like work uniforms, workout clothing, outerwear, and shoes don't count, and it's okay to have multiple of the same garment for laundry purposes - it just has to be the same color.

This sounds like an interesting experience to me, and although the registration period for the next cycle ends tomorrow, I think it would be a fun thing to try with family or friends.  Check out some of the favorite thoughts and success stories from the Six Items or Less challenge at http://siolcollective.com/.

Good Eats.

America's Next Great Restaurant has quickly become one of my favorite Sunday night shows.  The combination of smart-ass comments from Chipotle founder Steve Ells, celebrity chef Curtis Stone’s good looks, and the immediate hunger produced by an hour of watching other people eat tasty treats makes for one of the most enjoyable competition shows on television right now.

Besides watching purely for entertainment, the best part of this show is the fact that the winner will be opening three restaurants across the United States.  Somehow, our home sweet home city of Minneapolis landed itself as one of the locations lucky enough to gain one of these future hotspots.

Whether the winner ends up being the delicious-looking Sinners & Saints or the ridiculous Saucy Balls – I can’t wait to check it out.

Pick-Me-Up of the Day

Feast your eyes on some mullet eye candy as this dude pulls off one of the most hilarious pranks ever.  'Nuff said, enjoy.
